About Jeffery H
Welcome to Wize!
About Me
My name is Jeffery and I am looking forward to being your Wize Prof! I graduated from the Univeristy of Toronto with a MASc. in Mechanical Engineering in 2022. I completed my undergrad at the University of British Columbia in Mechanical Engineering as well, alongside a Minor in Commerce. I am currently working in the nuclear power industry as a piping stress engineer at AtkinsRéalis.
My Teaching Experience
I have been with Wize for 4 years teaching linear algebra and statics/dynamics. Even prior to entering post-secondary education, my passion for teaching drove me to seek out every teaching opportunity I came across. I started as a pre-calculus tutor at my highschool before working at Keystone J&K Services as a part-time mathematics teacher. In my third-year of undergrad, I had the opportunity to be a TA for PHYS 100, a first-year physics course at UBC. As a lecture TA, I was highly involved in both teaching at the front of the lecture hall and circulating around the classroom to assist students with the material. I particularly enjoyed teaching my favorite topics: kinematics and thermodynamics.
Through teaching at different academic levels, I learned to communicate ideas in different ways that best suit the person I am trying to assist. My motto is: 'Learning something new is not a straight line. Everyone has a different path towards understanding and it is a teacher's job to guide them in that direction.'
Fun Facts about Me
- I am a huge futbol (soccer) fan. My team is FC Barcelona
- I play 2 instruments and have a diploma in Piano Performance. I recently picked up the ukulele, but am still a novice
- I was a 'God of Tetris' on Tetris Friends before it got taken down
I am looking forward to helping you succeed in your course! I hope we can teach each other along the way and work together to achieve your academic goals!
