About Rex H
Hi, my name is Rex, and I’m passionate about making learning approachable and enjoyable for students!
My Education and Credentials
I recently graduated from McMaster University, where I completed both my Bachelors and Master's of Science in the Biochemistry program. After learning about the science of disease and how studying the mechanisms can lead to the development of new therapies, I fell in love with learning about biochemistry. For my Master's thesis, I completed a research project in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis where I worked on the development of novel blood-clotting therapies and studied the mechanisms of rare-blood diseases! For this project, I have won multiple scholarship awards, including a $25 000 grant and published in several research journals! I have maintained a 93% overall GPA and gained extensive experiences in biology, chemistry, and organic chemistry. I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant across multiple Biology and Biochemistry courses, which gave me firsthand experience supporting students in mastering challenging material.
Like many students, I didn’t find the transition to university easy. I struggled at first with the pace of lectures and difficult concepts. With the help of a supportive tutor, I turned things around by learning proven strategies like active recall, practice-based learning, and focusing on understanding rather than memorization. Those lessons shaped not just my grades, but my approach to learning, and they’re exactly what I want to share with you.
My Teaching Background
I’ve supported students through my role as a TA and through years of peer tutoring during my degree. My teaching style is supportive, practical, and focused on helping you succeed both in class and on exams. Tutoring has played such an important role in my own academic journey, and I’m excited to be able to “pay it forward” by helping you achieve your goals.
I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed by course content, but I also know that with the right approach, anyone can improve and succeed. My goal as your tutor is to:
- Break down complex topics into clear, manageable steps
- Share effective study strategies that actually work
- Build your confidence so you can tackle new challenges with ease
Whether it’s biology, chemistry, or physics, I’ll help you simplify the material, prepare for exams, and feel more in control of your learning!
