10 Remote Jobs for High School Students

Remote work is extremely popular these days, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are a high school student and looking to work from home, then finding a remote job is the best way to gain experience and earn some money along the way. Whether it’s working for a company remotely or doing freelance work, here are 10 remote jobs for high school students in 2021.

User Testing

User testing is the process of giving real people access to your product so they can provide feedback on whether or not it is working as intended. A company called UserTesting is actively hiring people to test websites from their various clients. Only people aged 18 or older can apply to become a tester. According to their website, you can earn $4 for every 5-minute test, $10 USD for every 20-minute test and between $30 USD to $120 USD for live interviews.

Online Tutor

Online tutoring has become quite popular in recent years. It's an exciting way to learn skills and increase your earning potential while still in high school. Platforms like Wyzant and Yup are hiring tutors to help high school students excel at their subjects. If you are over the age of 18, you are eligible to apply for these positions. Here at Wize, we are also looking to hire high school students (all ages, as long as you are in high school) to join our tutoring platform.

Freelance Writer

Writing for someone else can be an entry-level position or a full-time gig if you have something to offer. Freelance writing is incredibly rewarding as you can see your work being used by businesses large and small. As high school students, you can sign up for an account on freelance platforms like UpWork (age requirement is 18) and Fiverr (age requirement is 13) and start working as a freelance writer.

Freelance Graphic Designer

If you are looking to earn money as a freelance graphic designer, you will find that there are many opportunities. You don’t have to go to school to learn how to design flyers, t-shirts, or promo items for businesses. Many high school students in North America are able to gain access to profitable jobs thanks to the internet and its resources. Canva is an online graphic design tool that is free to use. As long as you are willing to put in the time and effort, there are opportunities for you to earn a decent wage and jump-start your own business. Of course, this does not mean that working for yourself is easy. You will have to work hard to get good at what you do so that others will notice and start taking notice as well. To get started in a career as a graphic designer, apply for jobs or post a gig on UpWork or Fiverr!

Website Building

Website building is a new type of digital job that doesn’t require a college education and tends to pay much better than regular jobs. Anyone with a computer and an internet connection can now create websites – for clients or themselves. These sites can be anything from an e-commerce site to a blog site. And it all starts with accounts at website builders like WordPress, Weebly, and Wix. Once again, you can start your career as a website manager/builder on freelance platforms like UpWork and Fiverr.

High School Internship

Remote job opportunities for high school students are on the rise. As more companies are willing to invest in younger generations, more young job seekers are free to pursue positions outside the office. For example, Chegg has a platform called internships.com which includes job listings for remote high school internship positions for a variety of industries. This is a great way to build up your resume while you are in high school to prepare for university applications.

Data Entry

Every year, more and more high school students will be entering the workforce. But for those who aren’t sure which field they want to pursue, or don’t have a clear idea of where they want to end up, there is still a lot of confusion surrounding how these positions are hiring.

Data entry is a great way to start if you are looking to earn some money. There are many companies looking for entry-level positions in data entry. Appen, for example, is an Australian-based data company that is looking to hire such positions. You can start by doing simple tasks such as surveys or collecting data for the company. Keep in mind that the age requirement is 18.

Virtual Assistant

What is a virtual assistant? Essentially, it is someone who takes care of your personal tasks online such as answering the phone, scheduling appointments and helping you with your website. Since this is more of a freelance type of job, UpWork and Fiverr are great places to start looking for virtual assistant jobs.

Social Media Marketing & Management

Jobs in social media marketing & management can be big money makers for high school students. These careers require a combination of networking and effort that few other applicants can fulfill. Full-time job opportunities are rare and oftentimes require working for an established company before getting a foot in the door.

However, with the rise of individual content makers on social media, there is a demand for people to help promote and manage social media accounts. If you think you are a social-media-savvy person, you can start reaching out to people via DMs, business emails, or even through freelance platforms (with the most popular being Fiverr and UpWork).

Brand Ambassador

Brand Ambassadors are high school students who are hired by companies to promote their businesses in the areas where they live. Brand ambassadors gain an audience through social media and word-of-mouth and are able to spread the word about a company's products or services through various promotional activities. Our company Wize is looking for high school brand ambassadors to let your peers know about our online learning platform among other services we offer.
