5 Ways to De-stress This Semester
In the midst of exam season, it can get really difficult to decompress and allow yourself to be in a state where focused studying is actually possible.
In order for your best work to come out, your mental state needs to reflect the attitude of positivity, calmness, and empathy towards yourself. Here are some tips on how to destress this semester before exams are over!
1. Journaling/Writing:
Finding a space to put down all your thoughts and feelings, rather than keeping them bottled up, can be a really important tool in rediscovering where your emotions are coming from. Stress can manifest itself in different ways, but sometimes seeing the words visually that you feel inside can really help with being able to let go of stress and learn new things about your thought process.
2. Talking To Family and Loved Ones:
Your family and friends will probably understand your stress more than you think, but can also be a great way to distract and let go of schoolwork for a few hours.
Talking to someone you love can make you forget about your worries, even just momentarily, and provide a new, fresh baseline for work after your conversation.
3. Going for Walks:
Although it may seem repetitive, physical activity is actually a huge factor in decompressing and de-stressing. Finding something for your body to do, rather than just focusing on your mind, can make sure that your entire being is balanced rather than misaligned.
Fresh air and pushing yourself to get outside can also offer a new perspective on the world around you.
4. Exploring Your University:
It’s so easy for all of us to get wrapped up in our own minds, problems, and schoolwork without bothering to look around.
Having a change of environment on campus can bring a little light into your life, and make it easier to appreciate the beautiful school you are attending. It may be your main cause of stress, but it also has some hidden gems that will make you fall in love with it all over again.
5. Discovering New Music:
Listening to new music is an escape from the world around you. Music can resonate, hype you up, or exemplify all the feelings you have in a completely different way. Make a new playlist, look for new artists, or watch a few music videos to bring you closer to a new art form and yourself!
