Best Budgeting Apps for College Students

Do you know what a balanced budget is?

Don’t worry- neither did I! And, sadly, many students head off to school without any idea of what it means to budget.

But, learning what one is, how to make it (and stick to it) is important. Especially for college students.

Don’t sweat it though! You’re not alone in this. There are plenty of free apps that can help. These apps will easily help you track, monitor and allocate all your money. That way, you have more to spend on what you really want (yourself).

For those of us who are not the most financially savvy, consider using the Mint app. This app is not only one of the oldest, but one of the best.

It’s super simple to use and has a very high rating to prove it. What makes this app so easy? It keeps everything in one place. Meaning, you can connect every financial account to it.

From bank accounts to bills, debts, and credit cards; everything will be laid out in one spot. And the app automatically forms a budget for you. This makes it easy to see exactly where your money is going. Plus, it sends you friendly reminders for when you go over budget, have an upcoming bill or could use some motivational tips on saving!

Just like a loving friend (or helicopter parent) the PocketGuard is here to monitor your spending habits. That’s because this app directly messages you when you’ve over-spent.

And, in college, this can happen a lot! Whether it’s on a wild night out for groceries or on bills (sadly). Knowing when you need to hold back is vital for students. Especially since overdraft fees, fines and interest quickly add up.

If you’re in a committed relationship. Or, living with siblings, close friends or family. You may want to consider giving Goodbudget a try. This app allows you to form a budget, but with other people. Meaning, communal households can now work together as a team!

Simply upload everyone’s expenses (and earnings) for the month. Then, watch the app automatically calculate and categorize how much everyone has left. Voila! Budgeting made easy.

If you cannot stand the thought of having to manage money on your own, consider giving the Simple app a try. And, just like the name suggests, this app was specifically designed for people that want to simplify their expenses.

Although it doesn’t use a central bank (or physical location). Their advanced interface lets users directly deposit or transfer money from multiple accounts into it. Giving you an easy way to see all your expenses and earnings in one place.
Happy budgeting!
