How to Develop Good Study Habits
Staying focused is definitely a struggle experienced by many students. We have many things distracting us, such as grades, money, personal relationships and social media.

It's essential to have good study habits to succeed and boost that GPA. Here are five tips on how to develop good study habits:
1. Know your learning method
We all perform things differently so it’s logical we learn differently than others. There are several ways of learning, such as visual learning style, where you learn best through colors, images and patterns; or auditory learning where you learn from audio cues and sounds.
Hence, there are different techniques involved when it comes to understanding information, so sit down and figure out how you learn best. Your learning style will help you determine how to study, and what other aids could benefit you.
2. Set study goals
Establish realistic and achievable goals and write them down on a piece of paper for each study session. Categorize your work; which class do you need to review more? Which subjects are you having difficulty with?
Once you have reflected on those, you will be able to determine how to organize your study load. Prioritize your assignments by the due date rather than preferred topics and establish which topic needs more focus.
3. Plan where and when to study
Decide on a location where you will spend your time studying. Some people like quiet places, and some with a little background noise. Find the environment that best suits your needs and entices you to learn. Once that has been established, set a schedule or a timeline that requires you to distance yourself from distractions and to concentrate on your work.
4. Take Breaks
We live in a generation where social media takes up a LOT of our time, thus, reaching out to your phone after a certain while is inevitable. Your phone and social media can easily interrupt your productivity.
To avoid that, give yourself a break after a specific time interval. For example, take a 10-15 minute break after every 45 minutes of studying, or whenever you feel you’re losing focus.
Go for a walk, take some fresh air, eat a healthy snack, and check on your phone and social media then. Distract and refresh yourself for that time frame, after all, you deserve it.
5. Join a study group
One of the best ways to learn is by communicating with other students. We’re definitely more at ease with peers than professors. Plus, we have more freedom at discussing, debating and quizzing each other on topics.
The advantage of studying in groups is that you get a new perspective and fill gaps in your understanding. Additionally, working in groups will boost and motivate you to learn and perform better, so look for people who are driven and that will contribute to your knowledge.
