How to Get Back to the Grind
Whether you are new to university or a returning student, the first weeks back are always stressful. There is nothing worse than aimlessly roaming campus, cold and hungry, searching for your next lecture hall. Here at Wize, we care about your wellbeing and have devised a shortlist on how to get back to the grind.
1. Get a Map
Every campus, big or small, will have a readily available physical or digital map. You will definitely look like a tourist, but you’ll be the one laughing when you arrive to class dry and on-time. Many campus maps will also include points of interest such as places to eat, rest stops and the student services center, which leads us to the next point.
2. Locate the Student Services Center
Almost all your questions can surely be answered by the knowledgeable staff behind the Student Services desk. From admissions to scheduling issues to queries about housing and rent, Student Services is your number one resource. Don’t have a question, go anyways to speak to an advisor about first-year grants, bursaries, and loans. Take advantage of your freshman status.
3. Meet Your Prof
In a sea of 200 students, you can easily disappear into the shadows of an introductory course. Start your year off on a good foot and introduce yourself to your professors. If they can put a face to the name, you’re already a step ahead of the game. Take note of their office hours and crack a joke or two. Profs are human after all.
4. Health and Safety
University can sometimes be mentally and physically exhausting. Familiarize yourself with the health resources on campus and the various programs available for those with anxiety. Moreover, late nights are a definite part of university. Whether you are burning the midnight oil in the library or out with some friends, know the safest routes home. Most campuses are heavily lit at night for students to navigate their way home safely. Sprinkled throughout the campuses are emergency telephones linked to campus security in case a situation should arise.
5. Make a Friend
No need for an explanation here. University can be the best of times and sharing that with someone else is priceless. Study sessions are also far more bearable when they are done in pairs or more. Your mental health must be a priority through your degree and surrounding yourself with people who care about you is central to your success.
We at Wize are committed to keeping you up to date on the latest study trends, relaxation techniques and best course content available. Helping you succeed is our purpose, keeping you motivated is our passion.
