The Top 5 Ways to Prepare for Course Selections

It’s course selection time! Whether this is your first time selecting courses or you’re just looking for confirmation of how course selections will go with Covid-19, here is a guide to picking your courses.

1. Read All the Updates Your School Puts Out

The only way you will be informed is if you are reading what your school is saying. You can read as many blogs as you’d like but unless one of them is your school’s, you are still going to be missing information.

Each university is handling the Covid-19 situation differently and their course registration will reflect that.

2. Know What Day and Time You’re Able to Apply

Many universities have implemented a rolling application for classes. This means that there might be a waitlist for when you can apply for them. So be ready to either be up early to pick your classes before everyone else, or be as relaxed and go with the flow as possible.

With many classes being offered online and very few being offered in person, this may affect the amount of students per class, so it’s best to be ready to fight for a place if your classes are letting in fewer people this year.

3. Make Sure You Know What Courses You Need

Go in with a plan and a knowledge of everything you need to sign up for. The course schedule is your friend - find it, study it, take notes from it. If you’re ready to simply enter the course codes then there’s no need for you to worry about scrabbling to find them.

Being prepared is the kindest thing you can do for yourself, especially with course selections this year. Take the time to find the courses you need for your degree and plan out your schedule at least a week in advance.

4. Know What Type of Classes You Have

With most everything moving online this upcoming semester, this means that when and where your classes will take place will change as well. So, it will be important to know which of your courses will be online and which will be in person, or are blended.

What you will find with some online courses is that they won’t have a timeslot. They might have a set time for questions with the professor, but the course itself will be pre-recorded lectures that you’ll be able to study and learn as you’d like. This could mean you might be able to take conflicting courses that you normally couldn’t manage.

5. Please Try to Relax

It’s hard to think about relaxing when it feels like there’s so much change and confusion going on in the universities and the world in general - but please just take a deep breath.

You will be able to do this.

With course selections happening and students ready to get back to normal life, this is your five step program to a smooth selection process. Be prepared and you’ve got this!
