MCAT

What is on the MCAT?

The MCAT is the Medical College Admissions Test, which is a standardized test required for most (if not all) North American medical schools. The MCAT is a passage based test for the most part, which means that you will be asked to read a variety of passages and answer questions relating to that material.

While there are general subject areas that you will need to display expertise in, you will also need to display your ability to perform under the pressure of a timed test and respond to things that you read and analyze there in the moment.

Wizeprep’s MCAT Elite 515 course is the only MCAT prep course that guarantees you a score of 515 or better on the MCAT or your money back. This course walks you through all the critical skills and subject matter expertise that you need to master for the MCAT.

The MCAT is broken down into the following four sections:

1. Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems

  • 25% biochemistry
  • 5% introductory biology
  • 30% general chemistry
  • 15% organic chemistry
  • 25% introductory physics

2. Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills

  • 50% Humanities
  • 50% Social Sciences

3. Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems

  • 25% biochemistry
  • 65% introductory biology
  • 5% general chemistry
  • 5% organic chemistry

4. Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behaviour

  • 65% introductory psychology
  • 30% introductory sociology
  • 5% introductory biology
It usually takes 8-10 weeks to prepare for the MCAT if you are able to study full-time, going through materials in an MCAT-specific way to learn strategies to tackle passages and improve your application and problem solving skills with each round of practice.

You should definitely do practice MCAT full-length test runs even just to determine how you feel sitting for such a long exam and working through the different subjects that you find on the MCAT.

The most important thing for you to know when it comes to MCAT preparation is that you want to focus the majority of your time on strategy and practice. The MCAT isn’t just testing how well you know Organic Chemistry or whether or not you have practiced the best tips for how general Chemistry appears on the MCAT, but rather whether you have the critical thinking skills required to become a doctor one day.
