What Type of Learner Are You?

What Type of Learner Are You?

Determining which of the 3 main types of learning styles is yours can be an incredible tool for college students. It can make studying less of a chore and a more streamlined and easy experience.

If you’re studying for how you learn, there’s no struggling to understand the information you want to take in because it’s already in terms your brain is comfortable with.

So, what is your learning style?

Are You an Auditory Learner?

Do you find yourself able to learn best through the lectures and tutorials? Are you able to recall information easily that you’ve heard? Does nothing clarify a lecture quite like a group study session?

Auditory learners are good public speakers, enjoy giving verbal presentations and are great storytellers. They are also very good at following verbal directions and understanding verbal cues and tonal shifts.

If this sounds like you, then you’re probably an Auditory learner.

Are You a Visual Learner?

Do you find PowerPoint presentations the easiest way to learn? Does everything make more sense once it’s color-coded? If you can graph out the information in some way does that do more for you than a whole lecture explaining the connections could?

Visual learners tend to be very good at spelling and grammar. They also tend to be very capable of explaining difficult concepts easily through visuals to others and, in general, are very creative. Their ability to quickly understand visual cues and signs means that they’re also quick to learn them and be able to repeat them, such as learning sign language or other visual forms of communication.

If this sounds like you, then you’re probably a Visual Learner.

Are You a Kinesthetic Learner?

Do you need to be able to put something into practice for it to make sense? Is it easier to put together a project for something than it is to sit and study it? Do you find yourself pacing while studying or tapping a pencil to help yourself focus?

Kinesthetic learners are good on their feet, they tend to have great reflexes, good hand-eye coordination, and fantastic motor memory.

They also tend to be more on the sports and theatre side, the types of activities where you are up and doing. High energy and a willingness to experiment are also good ways to tell if someone is a Kinesthetic learner.

If this sounds like you, then you’re probably a Kinesthetic Learner.

Knowing what type of learner you are is a quick way to figure out the best way for you to study and learn, and the more you know about yourself through your style of learning the easier it can be to stay on top of all of your classes.
