York U’s Best Study Spots
Exam time is always coming up and it’s time to start studying! In addition to using Wizeprep's Study Guides for York University to help you prepare, there are also some key spots that make studying feel more comfortable.
We know that York University’s go-to study spots on Keele Campus can get pretty packed at any time of year (Scott Library is already full, I’m sure), so we’re excited to give you a few new options with our list of York U’s best study spots!
You may already know some of these places, but I’m happy to share some of the hidden gems that I uncovered during my time at York U.
Get ready to settle into your new favourite study spot!
1. Victor Philip Dahdaleh Building (formerly known as Technology Enhanced Learning [TEL])
The Victor Philip Dahdaleh Building (or TEL, as I know it) is one of my favourite buildings on campus to settle down and study in, because almost every corner can be the perfect study spot. From the basement to the first and second floors, you will find a free spot even in the busiest of times!
2. Founders College
Founders College was always my next go-to spot to study, because it offers a variety of study rooms for you to choose from! Founders houses a Junior Common Room, the Arthur Haberman Room, and a Senior Common Room—you’ll find your perfect study spot in no time!
Did I mention that the Junior Common Room is also where Founders College runs their Student Academic Assistant Program? If you need help with your essay or are stuck with an exam prep question, their Student Academic Assistants will be there to help!
3. Country Style Kosher Café
Connected to Founders College, you can also find the Country Style Kosher Café! This café is located in Winters College and offers some of the best spicy fries I’ve ever had. This is definitely a hidden gem on campus, and there’s always seating—perfect for the days that you need a little
brain food!
4. First & Second Student Centres
The First Student Centre and Second Student Centre are always on my list of study spots. There are definitely peak hours where you might have a hard time finding a spot to sit, but if you can find a seat these are great study spots on Keele Campus. If you want to plan your study time in advance, you can also book a room to study in a group for up to 2 hours in the Second Student Centre!
5. Stong Dining Hall
Located in the basement of Stong College, the Stong Dining Hall offers a large space just a few steps from the cafeteria and The Orange Snail. If you’re trying to find a place to study on the west end of campus, this might be the spot for you!
6. Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies
Another hidden gem! The Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies building has a fantastic study lounge in the basement, but it’s a favourite for nursing students, so it can fill up fast. That said, the study lounge is quiet and ideal if you need a calm space to study.
7. William Small Centre Computing Commons
If your computer dies on campus or if you need to print anything, you can stop by the William Small Centre Computing Commons! The computer lab is located in the William Small Centre, and it always has room for everyone. Bonus: if you need to print your notes, a printer is already there!
