About Ahmed A
Hey everyone, welcome to Wizeprep! If you're reading this, that means I may have the privilege of teaching one of your classes sometime in the near future. Before we get there, I'd love to introduce myself.
My life journey has taken me all over the place. I was born in Alexandria, Egypt, where I lived for a short period of time before moving to West Lafayette, Indiana where my dad continued his educational journey at Purdue University. We then moved to the Bay Area, and eventually settled in Waterloo, ON which I've called home ever since.
Currently, I'm a second year medical student at the University of Toronto. Prior to starting my MD, I completed a BSc. in Honours Biomedical Science, where I also played on the football and squash teams. I was fortunate to graduate as a 4x Academic All-Canadian, 3x OUA medalist, and the Faculty of Science Valedictorian.
Outside of my own academic career, I take a lot of pride in supporting students like yourself in their own respective journeys. I've been tutoring since I was in high school, which has allowed me to work with countless students on over a dozen different courses. After doing freelance and self-employed work for several years, I eventually held positions such as Director of Instruction at Jack Westin, and now as Director of Tutoring here at Wizeprep.
My teaching experience has taught me a lot, but some of my favorite takeaways are:
- Sometimes material isn't hard as it seems, it just needs to be approached from a different perspective. Strategy is everything, especially when it comes to multiple choice.
- Understanding > memorizing. We've all heard the adage about teaching a man to fish vs. just giving him the fish, and it couldn't be more true
- There is no better feeling than hearing student success stories
Hopefully in our time working together, we'll get to experience each of these 3 points firsthand. In the meantime, don't hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]. I really enjoy supporting and mentoring students - I certainly had and continue to have my fair share of mentors, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
