Product Engineer (Full Stack) - Remote

Product Engineer (Full Stack)

Remote: North America Ruby on Rails + React High Ownership | Small Team | Real Revenue | Real Impact

About Wizeprep

Wizeprep is building the most effective student success platform in North America.

For over 10 years, we’ve supported high school students, university students, and future doctors, lawyers, and dentists at every major academic milestone, from course prep and SAT/ACT performance to LSAT, MCAT, and DAT mastery and professional school admissions.

On the product side, we are intentionally small.

Today, it is just our CTO/Co-Founder, a Designer and a Product Manager.

We are hiring our second engineer.

This is a rare opportunity to meaningfully shape a product that already serves hundreds of thousands of students and is positioned to scale much further.

The Role

We don’t hire engineers to close tickets.

We hire engineers to solve meaningful problems.

As a Product Engineer at Wizeprep, you will own problems end to end:
  • Talk to support to understand why tutors are struggling with a workflow
  • Identify friction in a student’s prep journey
  • Design the backend solution in Rails
  • Build the frontend in React
  • Ship
  • Iterate based on real feedback
There are few blockers to ship quickly.
No sprint theater.
No endless Slack debates.

If something meaningfully improves the product and helps students win, we build it.

This role requires autonomy, judgment, and product taste.

What You’ll Own

  • Building and shipping full-stack features in a Rails monolith + React frontend
  • Improving core student and tutor workflows
  • Contributing to architecture and technical direction
  • Making pragmatic decisions that balance speed and quality
  • Identifying and fixing UX friction without waiting to be told
  • Helping scale a profitable product responsibly
You will directly influence product direction. Your decisions will matter.

Our Stack

We keep things simple and pragmatic so we can move quickly.

Backend: Ruby on Rails (Monolith) Frontend: React Infrastructure: Heroku Planning: Notion + direct discussion

We optimize for clarity, maintainability, and shipping velocity.

Why This Role Is Different

Extreme Autonomy

We operate with roughly 1–2 hours of synchronous meetings per week. The rest of your time is deep work.

Real User Impact

You are building tools that help students improve grades, increase test scores, and gain admission to competitive programs.

Stability + Builder Energy

We have a decade of product-market fit and real revenue.
At the same time, the product team is small enough that your work defines the platform’s future.

High Leverage

As engineer #2, you are not a small cog in a large machine. You are a core part of it.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years building production web applications (Rails + React preferred, or equivalent stack experience)
  • Comfortable owning features end to end
  • Product-minded with strong UX instincts
  • Biased toward shipping and iterating
  • Able to make trade-offs without over-engineering
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating without micromanagement
  • Motivated by impact, not process theater
You likely enjoy small teams, high trust, and high responsibility.

Interview Process

We respect your time and focus on real signal.

Intro Call (30 minutes) Conversation with our CTO about your experience and how you like to build.

Founder Conversation (30 minutes) Discussion with our CEO about vision, ambition, and long-term alignment.

Paid Work Trial
A multi-day paid project inside our real codebase.
You see how we operate. We see how you think and ship.
No Leetcode. No whiteboard puzzles.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity
  • Fully remote within Canada or the United States
  • Flexible hours focused on outcomes, not face time
If you’re excited by the idea of owning product decisions inside a real business, not just implementing tasks and want to help thousands of students reach ambitious academic goals, we’d love to speak with you and encourage you to apply today.
