The Writing Process
Writing begins with: brainstorming, note taking, focus questions, outline, rough draft, revision/feedback, revision/polish, final check, submission. 
Some teachers may break out each component part or step in the process to make it worth marks. 
They key is to remember that writing is a process. 
Just as much of mathematical work requires you to "show your work," often in producing texts for evaluation, you must also "show your work." 
Of course, along the way, the ideas that you are working with will be honed and refined throughout the writing process. What seems to make sense in your head might need a bit more working out, once you try to write a first draft. 
And this is a normal, albeit uncomfortable part of writing.

Types of Revision: Copy & Content Editing
There are two types of revision in this writing process: copy editing and content editing. 

Copy Editing
Simple copy editing checks for the mechanical elements of writing to make sure that things are handled correctly. 
Copy editing can be done well by a number of electronic tools out there, but content editing is the hard part. 
Content Editing
Content editing has to do with the subject matter and the ideas. 

Wize Tip
When content editing: check for repetition, check word choices to be as specific as possible, double check sources to ensure facts are correct, etc.
