Cultural Psychology
Culture - values, traditions, and beliefs that are shared by a particular group of people.
Cultural psychology - the study of how our culture influences our mental life.
Historically, psychology has treated people as identical across cultures. For example, the assumption was that if a study conducted in North America found that people detect more differences in foreground objects than background objects when comparing two pictures, this would be the same all over the world. It turns out that if the study is conducted in Japan, the opposite pattern is found.
