Psychology as a Profession

Three main career paths in psychology:
- Clinical or counselling psychology - focus on assessing or treating people with psychological problems. Most require a PhD or PsyD in order to practice. Cannot prescribe medication.
- Academic research and teaching - what you think of as professors. Require a PhD or, more rarely, a PsyD.
- Working in industry and applied settings - working in a broad range of settings, including academic testing, industrial/organization psychology, survey research companies, marketing, forensics, etc.
