Psychoactive drugs - Chemical substances that modify mental, emotional, or behavioural functioning.
Agonists and Antagonists
Agonists - increase activity at receptor sites by mimicking the neurotransmitter, increasing release of neurotransmitters, or reducing reuptake of neurotransmitters, or slowing breakdown of neurotransmitters in the synapse.
Antagonists - decrease activity at receptor sites by blocking receptor sites.
