Self-Harm Behaviours
Self-harm behaviours, also called Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI), refer to any act in which someone deliberately harms themselves without the intention of suicide.
This can include cutting, hitting, burning, the ingestion of toxic substances, or the prevention of wounds from healing.
NSSI can occur as a form of maladaptive coping or emotional regulation to temporarily relieve intense negative emotions. Additionally, it could be a form of self-punishment or an expression of one's pain.
