Disorders of Consciousness

Disorder of consciousness - temporary or permanent inability to demonstrate either full consciousness or self-consciousness
Coma - eyes closed, no communication, no response to either their name or physical stimulation.
Vegetative state - eyes open periodically, appear to be awake at regular periods. Movement occurs, but not reliably in response to external world.
Minimally conscious state - can respond reliably to sensory stimulation, but responses are inconsistent.
Locked-in syndrome - person is fully aware but cannot demonstrate it because of a lack of control over voluntary muscles.
Audrey is in the hospital and is experiencing disordered consciousness. When someone touches her arm, she responds by moving slightly, groaning, sighing, or twitching, but it's impossible to guess which response you will get each time. Audrey is experiencing:
