5 Types of People you'll see at a College Party
A college party is a unique type of experience with a lot of eclectic people. Generally there is no divide by majors or age but that doesn’t mean that there aren't cliques that form during a party.
Among these cliques you’ll find loads of stereotypical types of people for a college party environment. But here are 5 to look out for and recognize.
The One There to Drink
They are here for a good time, not necessarily a long time. They want to get wasted and dance and have fun. They may not be at the heart of the party but they will attract a lot of attention nevertheless. They’ll be entertaining but if you aren’t really into drinking, then being around them probably isn’t for you. If you are, they know how to have a good time.
The One Dragged Along
They either aren’t into parties or they need to get an assignment done but a friend asked them to come out with them. They’ll usually stick close to the friend who brought them or at the edge of the party.
They won’t necessarily be in a bad mood or even rude, but they probably won’t want to listen to your tipsy talk about your latest lecture or recent TV show binge. If they’re willing to talk then go for it, but don’t push them too much. They’re here as a favour and not because they want to be.
The One Seeking Attention
At every party there will be that one person who needs to pull attention. Whether they make themselves the MC or feel the need to do something reckless, there will always be one. The Class Clown taken to a whole new level, with or without alcohol. Generally harmless and often times very entertaining, this type of person wants you to look at them and to be the most interesting person at the party.
The One Trying to be a Professor
This is someone who thinks it’s a good idea to try to give a lecture at a party. They want to talk about their major and their classes and explain their studies. They don’t want to socialize, they want to teach you about what they’re learning.
If you’re interested in their field of study, then it’s a great time to be learning something new, or to even have an in depth discussion. But if you don’t, just excuse yourself and move on. Don’t let yourself get stuck in a conversation you don’t want to be. It’s cool to cut out.
The One Who’s Never Been to a Party Before
It’s always someone’s first party. Everyone has to start somewhere. They’ll either melt in with the people who brought them naturally, or be horribly awkward. Talk with them, or if you are them, pick up a conversation. People at a party are there to socialize so they won’t turn you away.
