5 Ways to Protect Against Coronavirus (COVID-19)for University Students
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’d know that Coronavirus (COVID-19) is sweeping not only the nation but the entire world. For many of you, your school has responded in ways such as banning gatherings of 250 people or more or going completely online. The main question on your mind is simple: How can I stay safe? This article will give you tips and advice on how to stay safe and prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
1. Wash Those Hands

Many people will say that wearing a mask is important to protect themselves but the World Health Organization states that “you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person [with CoronaVirus/COVID-19.]” If you insist on wearing a mask, be sure to change it the moment it gets damp.
The biggest thing you can do to prevent the spread is to make sure you constantly clean your hands. We are estimated to have 1500 bacteria per each square centimeter of our hands and this is worse between the fingers and underneath our fingernails. When you wash your hands, make sure that you’re washing with warm to hot water and soap for at least 20 seconds. If you aren’t able to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol. If possible, you should be washing your hands and using sanitizer together to annihilate the bacteria.
2. Disinfect Your Phone

As a college student, it’s pretty much a given that you’re always using your phone. Your phone, on average, has 25,127 bacteria per square inch. Disgusting! Make sure to disinfect your phone when you can because there’s a chance that Coronavirus (COVID-19) can cling to it. There are many ways to disinfect your phone, including rubbing alcohol and water, disinfectant wipes, and even hand sanitizer. What’s the point of washing your hands if your phone’s dirty?
3. Avoid Touching Your Face

Even if you’ve washed your hands and phone, you should avoid touching your face as much as possible. I know, that itch isn’t going to scratch itself but you’re going to have to tough it out. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is typically contracted when you get it on your hands and then transfer the virus to your face. Coronavirus (COVID-19) can latch onto surfaces for 24-48 hours so you’ll have to be extra careful about what you’re touching in general.
4. Don’t Attend Large Gatherings

If you’re anything like me, you do your best studying in the library or outside of the house. Unfortunately, you might need to reconsider your studying rituals as these places are most likely to harbor the virus. It’s really important that you avoid these public spaces unless absolutely necessary. Get comfy because your home is going to be the safest place to avoid contracting the virus.
5. Watch out for Symptoms

We’ve heard all about Coronavirus (COVID-19) but few of us know what that actually looks like. We’ve attached an image detailing the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how they compare to the cold and flu. The biggest thing to note is that you should seek medical attention the moment you think you’re getting sick. When that happens, be sure to self-isolate and avoid contact with anyone else.
6. Learning Online

As mentioned above, many schools are taking their curriculum online as they shut their doors to the public. Learning online and not in a stuffy classroom is definitely a way to minimize the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). You might not be accustomed to this change so it’s important to know how best to study online. We’ve written articles on how you can take advantage of learning online and we’ve listed them below.
