Agenda Tips for College Students

Keeping organized is an incredibly important part of life for college students. Everyone needs to know when their projects are due, what time their classes are, and what social events they have coming up. Without an agenda, it can be hard to keep track. But how do you make an agenda work for you?

For all those who have either never used an agenda before or want to learn to use it more effectively, here are a few tips for how to balance an agenda.

Pick the Right Agenda

Don’t just pick a random agenda and say that it’s good enough. Find one that has everything that you as an individual will need. What size and shape do you want?

Some like big agendas so they don’t lose them, others small to make sure they’re easy to carry. Do you want a yearly calendar, a 17 or 18 month one? If you’re a forward planner a 17-month planner may make more sense to you.

Write Your Class Schedule

After the first week or two of classes, you’ll probably have your class schedule memorized but that doesn’t matter, write it in your agenda. Seeing your classes written out will help make sure that you never double book anything.

As well make sure you add in any tests or assignments and when they’re due for each class. This means that you can then assign times to study for or write the assignments.

Times are Important

Always make sure that if you put something in your agenda you give it a general time. Even if you don’t know exactly when it will take place it’s best to know which part of your day it will take up.

This is especially important for social events and assignments that are due outside of class time. Nothing is worse than getting late marks because you had to submit an essay at midnight and you forgot.

Color Code

Make the different parts of your life different colours. If you make your class schedule blue, have you assignments and tests red, your social events in green, and so on. The visual distinction will make it easier to distinguish what type of day you have coming up and how to prepare for it.

Write It Down

This isn’t agenda exclusive but a great tip nonetheless - write it down. No, you won’t remember the date of that pop quiz off the top of your head. Nope, that coffee date isn’t at 3:10, it’s at 1:30.

The more details you put into an agenda the easier it is to keep track of everything. Don’t assume you will remember, write it down. It’s what your agenda is for.
