Five Tips on Staying Awake while Studying

Five Tips on Staying Awake While Studying

As a university student, you probably spend most of your time studying. It is no doubt that with all the deadlines and submissions, you are overworked and feeling tired, which probably affects your mindfulness and gets you all sluggish.

Fear not, here are five tips to help you stay up while studying!

1. Hydrate!

Water may be a tasteless substance, but it is rather a powerful and essential one. Dehydration is one of the leading causes of fatigue and loss of concentration.

Water not only fuels your body and mechanism but also vitalizes your brain and memory into retaining information and being alert.

Hydrating may not guarantee you an A+ but it will definitely prevent you from experiencing dizziness and fatigue while you study.

2. Have some caffeine

Probably one of the most popular substance among students; caffeine comes in different forms and drinks and is relied upon for the same thing: ENERGY. It gives you a boost and stimulates your brain so you can be active and alert.

Although there is a wide range of products offering caffeine, you’ve got to be careful with your consumption. Choose healthy options for better outcomes.

So, scratch off sodas, energy drinks and bars; they’re all high in sugar, which in turn will get you stressed (as they may increase your heart rate) and dehydrated.

Go simply for coffee, or tea; they have a moderate amount of caffeine and are sugar free. Hence, take a good caffeinated drink that will keep you focused, yet healthy while you study.

3. Switch topics

Steadiness is a wonderful quality, unfortunately, not all are blessed with it. If you feel you’re losing focus or are fading after a certain while, do not give up. You’re probably exhausted from continuously studying the same material.

Proceed to the next topic. To avoid mental exhaustion or weariness, plan your sessions. After certain hours, switch subjects, so you can refresh and still be mentally active as you won’t be spending your energy on one topic.

4. Have a snack

Instead of going for sugary snacks (which may energize you, at the cost of an annoying crash after), opt for a snack that will give you sustenance.

For instance, yogurt, apples, berries or bananas. They’re naturally packed with healthy sugar, so they’ll provide you with energy and hopefully prevent you from falling asleep.

5. Hype Up

While controlling your intake and concentration are all efficient methods, you’ve got to adopt certain measures as well. Shake things up; try to snap out of your fatigue. Take control of the ambiance and your behaviour.

Take a walk or stretch, so you’re active and keep the blood flowing. Put some music, not too loud; and choose something that won’t distract your concentration, like chill jam.

Also, change your study method; start reading aloud so you can hear yourself to process better. How you study may have an impact on your consciousness, so switch it up when necessary.
