The Best Mental Health Apps for College Students

If you’re in college, you know how life can ebb and flow. Some days you feel on top of the world and on others, you’re down in the dumps.

Remember that it’s a completely natural part of the college experience and you shouldn’t feel alienated because of it. It’s important to self-care and keep your mental health in check. Here are our favorite mental health apps for college students.

1. Koko

Koko is a social networking app developed by researchers at MIT. Koko provides a safe space for users to share their stress and concerns or help others in need of support. Koko is recommended for those who don’t mind sharing anonymously or want to help others in distress.

2. Calm

Calm is typically known as the “other” meditation app opposite Headspace. Although both are great for many reasons, I prefer more features on Calm.

One of my favourite features is how the app will read you excerpts from books to help you fall asleep. If you’re looking for an app to unwind, meditate, and sleep to, Calm is for you.

3. RescueTime

Let’s face it, we’re on our screens too much. Whether it’s homework, social media, or Netflix, our mind (and eyes) could use a rest every now and then.

RescueTime tracks app usage, screen time, and syncs up with the desktop/web client. This is the perfect app for those trying to track their productivity or just looking to get a rest from their screens.

4. Flowy

Flowy is a unique app because it’s a game that helps you breathe. Trials were run to measure the efficacy of this app and all participants showed a reduction in anxiety and panic attacks. If you find that your mind wanders while you do breathing exercises, this app will keep you centered and focused on the actions.

5. Self-Help Anxiety Management

If you’re looking to manage your anxiety, Self-Help Anxiety Management might be the app for you. This app helps you monitor your anxiety with helpful graphics and provides you with self-help options and lessons to combat your anxiety. There’s also a social network for users built into the app if you’re looking for online support.
