Hi!

Yes, it covers all of the curriculum for MCR 3U. There may be additional topics that go beyond the scope of MCR 3U, so be sure to only look at the content that your teacher is asking of you :).

How do you simplify radicals
J
Jarrett N
Instructor
Hi! So the key to simplifying radicals is to find the largest perfect square and then use the property of radicals to simplify radicals. Examples of perfect squares are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, ... etc.

Let's consider 80\sqrt{80} for example. We know that 16x5=80. So, we can rewrite 80=165\sqrt{80}=\sqrt{16}\sqrt{5}. We know that 16=4\sqrt{16}=4 and thus 80=165=45.\sqrt{80}=\sqrt{16}\sqrt{5}=4\sqrt{5}.

If you find any specific questions related to radicals that you are stuck on, please let me know! :)
