Glycolysis Full Sequence of Reactions and Summary

- Three irreversible steps:
- 1. Glucose to glucose 6-phosphate
- 2. Fructose 1,6-biphosphate
- 3. Phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) to pyruvate
- ATP Balance:
- Two ATP consumed in the first half
- Two ATP produced in the second half x 2 = 4 ATP
- NADH, H+ produced x 2 = 2 NADH, H+
- Three highly regulated enzymes:
- Hexokinase
- Phosphofructokinase ("pacemaker enzyme")
- Pyruvate kinase
- Occurs in the cytoplasm.
