The Nervous System
The Nervous system can first be broken down into two parts:
- Central (CNS) - the mainframe of the body. All information is processed here.
- Peripheral (PNS) - the information gatherers. The information is received here.
- The somatic nervous system is associated withvoluntary motor controlof the body or sensations.
- The autonomic nervous system involves control ofunconscious body functions.
Neurons
- Electrically excitable cells
- Parts of the neuron:
- Soma
- Axon
- Dendrites
- Axon Terminal
- Information travels only in this direction: body --> axon
- Types of neurons:
- Sensory
- Motor
- Interneurons
