Balance & The Vestibular System

Proprioception - ability to know where our body parts are in relation to one another. Uses sensors on muscles, joints, skin, and tendons to figure out position. Can be disrupted temporarily by rapid growth or weight loss.
Kinesthesia - ability to know where our body is in relation to the world around us. Relies on vestibular system as well as sensors on muscles, joints, skins, and tendons.
Vestibular System

Semi-circular canals, urticle, and saccule in the inner ear contribute to our sense of balance and orientation. They are filled with fluid and otoliths which respond to changes in orientation and movement.
Dizziness and nausea can be caused by inner ear infections.
