Perceptual Processes

Sensation - Stimulation of sense organs, converted to neural impulses through transduction
Example: Light hitting retina, sound waves hitting ear, etc. becomes neural impulses
Perception - Selection, organization, interpretation of sensory input
Example: interpreting the light/colours you are seeing as an apple
Our brains interpret sensory information by using our expectations, past experience, and other sensory inputs. Occasionally, this leads to errors like optical illusions and inattentional blindness.
