Partying will likely be a part of every student’s college social experience and can be a great way to let loose, have a good time, and meet new friends. Although every college party is different, you are guaranteed to find that at almost all colleges parties will fall into some common categories.
Before we dive into the list of parties, it goes without saying that it is essential to stay safe and be responsible while you’re out partying and having fun.
Now that that’s been said, here’s a quick list of 6 types of parties you’ll see at college:
1. The Theme Party

The theme party is one of the most common types of parties you will attend. After all, who doesn’t love a good theme? From toga to beach, costume and more; be prepared to get a little creative for these events. They're a great way to get a little silly and be able to justify it the next morning.
2. The Banger

It’s not easy to tell which parties will turn out to be bangers. That’s because they’re usually the result of a combination of people, music, and venue and making them different each time and hard to predict. But when a party does turn into a banger they can be super fun. So if you discover one of these parties make sure to enjoy it!
3. The Tailgate

A tailgate party is another common one on the list of college parties. This is the type of party you’ve probably seen in a movie when two big rival college football teams play each other. People park their cars in a large outdoor space (usually a parking lot outside a stadium) and they party it up dressed in varsity colours. Expect plenty of alcohol, food, games, and cheering at this kind of party. Oh, and it’s one of the rare events where day drinking is acceptable.
4. The Basement Bash

Most college students don’t think they will end up partying in basements but it happens! These underground basement parties can be fun, albeit slightly peculiar. It’s not unusual that this type of party would have an unknown music band playing. Be warned the basements are usually poorly lit, the floors tend to be sticky, and because it’s in a basement it’s usually a very loud affair. But fingers crossed you enjoy the show!
5. The Frat Party

The frat party is iconic and the most stereotypical college party. Hosted by a fraternity, they’re filled with alcohol, kegs (small barrels that typically contain drinks), students, and general silliness.
There are different types of fraternities at each college and they can be academic or non-academic. An example of an academic fraternity would be the engineering or business frats. Other non-academic fraternities might fall into the social, service, and professional categories. Make sure you do your research on which fraternity is the most suitable for you before participating in any of their events because many fraternities require you to be a member in order to attend.
The frat party is an effective way to meet new friends because they tend to be more social. Just know when to call it a night! If you’re curious about what happens during a frat party, check out these 10 things you can expect to happen in a frat party by Elite Daily.
6. The Dorm Room

Before going off to college, I bet you thought you would never be partying in a room the size of a closet. But, where else will you be able to get a little silly? Dorm parties usually start off as low-pressure and welcoming events.
These parties have a smaller amount of partygoers limited by the size of the dorm room. So, remind yourself not to do anything crazy. It's a smaller party, so people are likely to remember you.
Dorm room parties are intimate, accepting, and exhilarating. That is only if you are confident that you won't get caught! Make sure everybody is keeping it down to keep the party going; otherwise, you can expect a knock on your door to break it up.
Stay Safe!
Partying (in moderation) is one of the best ingredients of your college experience! However, you have to make sure to stay safe during these parties.
Keep your phone fully charged before you leave so that you can make emergency calls when needed. Stay with people you know and trust. By sticking together, you can ensure each other's safety.
