Best Dalhousie Study Spots
Whenever exam season hits, you might have realized that the libraries at Dalhousie can get pretty crowded if you don’t get there early. Not only have we curated Dalhousie-specific study help for all your toughest courses, but we've also checked out the best places for you to study. Here are some hidden & happy study spots in and around Studley campus to help scare away the study blues:
The Mona Campbell - 1459 Lemarchant St.
Home to the College of Sustainability, the Mona Campbell is an architect's dream. The newer building is full of light and unique spaces, as well as plenty of study rooms and desks that are quiet and more often than not unused, making it a study spot just waiting to be discovered.
Life Sciences Center - 8th Floor - 1355 Oxford St.
If you’ve ever seen an Instagram of a sunset over Dalhousie campus, more likely than not it came from the LSC 8th floor. Although this study spot isn’t huge, if you and a couple of friends can snag a seat here it’s definitely a room with a view, perfect for someone who needs a little ambience without the background noise.
Chase Building Learning Center - 6313 Coburg Rd.
If you’ve ever ventured in you’ll know that the Learning Center in the Chase building is pretty similar in style to the often-busy, Wallace McCain Learning Commons next door. The Learning Center is much smaller, but there’s never more than 10 students there, meaning if you really need to get down and focus it might be your new go-to.
University of King’s College Library - 6350 Coburg Rd.
Avoid the dreaded wandering of floors in the Killam during finals season and head to the part-library, part-museum that is the King’s College Library. It’s got a great atmosphere and you’ll also get to enjoy hanging out with a different group of students than usual if you’re not a King’s student.
Coburg Social - 6085 Coburg Rd.
Located just off campus, Coburg social is the perfect spot for someone who needs a little noise to get things done. With great food, great coffee, and now the option for great beer, Coburg is the ideal place to do a little group studying. And be sure to bring your dog by if you stop in - the staff & customers alike welcome it!
The Nook - 2118 Gottingen St.
The Nook is another unique café space for studying. They serve amazing food & drink that caters to all types of foodies, and have built the shop so that you can sit alone, study with friends, or be social in smaller groups. If you’re in the North End of Halifax and need a coffee to spark your productivity - this is the place to do it.
Seven Bays Bouldering - 2019 Gottingen St.
Another North-End spot, Seven Bays is not only a café and a bar, but a bouldering gym! You can watch people climb while you sip a lager or a latte and get your final projects done. There’s also plenty of space to get cozy and enjoy a little time off. If you fancy a workout then getting some work done, the unique Seven Bays is like no other in Halifax.
The Central Library - 5440 Spring Garden Rd.
A classic, the public library is a huge space with tons of light and amusing architecture that often graces the Instagrams of Halifaxians. Close to downtown and also not far from main campus, the library is right next to Sexton campus, so it might be your new favourite if you’re an up-and-coming engineering student. If you just need to get off campus and get a little air, the public library is a great place to shake up your study routine.
