How to Have a Netflix & Chill Relationship With Time

How to Have a Netflix & Chill Relationship With Time

The relationship between students and Time is usually not a good one. Like any relationship, it starts with its honeymoon phase, but it doesn’t take long for it to go downhill.

Time stops making time for the student and stops Netflixing, turning it into a “no-chill” relationship. However, this unfortunate turn in the relationship is avoidable.

Though of course, for this, you must first be able to Netflix and chill with Time.

Plan Your Date with Time: Scheduling Your Day

Think of time as money; the more you save in places where it may not be of the best use, the more you have to invest in places that will give you better returns. However, unlike money, time once spent cannot be made up for. It is, therefore, better to plan out your time.

Make a schedule for each day, and stick to it. Scheduling reduces the amount of time you have to spend thinking about what to do next.

Prioritize all that needs to be accomplished, and be realistic while estimating how long each task will take you.

Intersperse your day with enough breaks and recreational activities like watching Friends, to avoid tiring your mind (After all, Netflixing is crucial for having a good relationship).

Organizing your day prepares your mind for what’s to come, and reduces the sense of overwhelm that you might feel if you were towing your day and try to complete everything on your to-do list.

Come Home to Time Feeling Relaxed: Every Second Counts

Students tend to waste time that they have in between classes, underestimating the potential that this time has for getting work done. Even a fifteen-minute break in between your classes may be used for working on a task.

If you are not convinced, then just think of the massive amount of material a professor is able to cover in just 50 minutes of a lecture. During longer breaks, it is possible to do activities other than academics.

If you have long been thinking about going to the gym, then now is your opportunity!

If you are running out of groceries, then go grocery shopping while you are still out and about, instead of going back home, getting comfortable, and then putting off your grocery to avoid walking out into the cold for a second time (for sure, you all can relate to this).

Finish Your Work Quickly so You Can Netflix More: Efficient Work Habits

Don’t take four hours to write an essay that can be written in three. Weigh your opportunity costs in spending that one extra hour (in terms of The Office that’s three whole episodes!).

Meditation is one powerful way to keep your mind in control so that you are able to focus on achieving all the goals that you have set for yourself (it can also help you stay calm when you are frustrated with Time for not agreeing to binge watch How I Met Your Mother).

Your general health is also important in helping your mind stay focused. It may not seem obvious, but exercising, eating the right kind of food, getting enough sleep and engaging in de-stressing activities are not wastes of time, but instead help you work more efficiently.

Another way to increase concentration is to work in an appropriate setting with the least distractions, such as the library. Listen to your needs and you will see the results reflected in your time management as well.

There is no such thing as “saving” time per se, just spending it wisely. Like any good relationship, it is important to put effort into your relationship with Time and make the most efficient use of it. After all, who doesn’t want to Netflix with bae?
