Objective Tests & Personality Inventories
Standardized tests are used to measure different aspects of personalty
Objective Tests - personality assessments with fixed response options (i.e. multiple choice)
- Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) - assesses personality and psychopathology, True/False questions
- Sample questions: "I enjoy detective or mystery stories", "At times I feel like smashing things", "I dislike having people around me"
Personality Inventories - more subjective questionnaires that offer a broader picture of personality
- Big Five Inventory - measures the "Big Five" personality traits (OCEAN): openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism
- Respond on a 5-point scale from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree, i.e. "I see myself as someone who is helpful and unselfish with others"
- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) - classifies people into 1 of 16 personality types (i.e. ISTJ, ENTP, etc)
