Projective/Implicit Tests
Tests that measure unconscious processes and aspects of personality
Projective Tests - present ambiguous stimuli to participants, their interpretations will reflect their projected feelings, thoughts, and personality traits
- Rorschach Inkblot Test - you are presented ambiguous inkblot designs and describe what you see
- Thematic Apperception Test - you are presented ambiguous scenes of people and events and describe what you think is happening
Implicit Tests - measure unconscious beliefs and attitudes, often without the participant being aware what is being measured
- Implicit Association Test (IAT) - used to measure beliefs that people are unable or unwilling to speak about
- Race IAT - measures implicit racial biases, one task involves quickly associating images of people's faces and good/bad words
