Additional Practice
In the active site of Ribonuclease A there are three key amino acids: His12, His119, and Lys41. This enzyme cleaves single stranded RNA at physiological pH. The two His residues fluctuate their role as both acids and bases to cleave single stranded RNA while Lys41 stabilizes an intermediate of the reaction. In the first half of the reaction His 119 acts as an acid while His 12 acts as a base.
What would happen if His119 was replaced with Asp?
Which of the 4 following amino acids is NOT one of the 20 canonical amino acids?
