Cheapest McGill Eats
University isn’t cheap and neither is living in a huge metropolis like Montreal. Eating out every night can definitely put a strain on your finances, especially if you’re trying to survive on a student budget.
If you are from out of town and unfamiliar with the downtown core, you are sure to fall victim to tourist traps and pay big dollar for small portions.
We at Wize have done our research and went on the hunt for the cheapest yet most satisfying eateries near McGill's downtown campus!
1) Super Sandwich, 1115 Sherbrooke West

Can only spare a few bucks? No problem! Tucked away in a basement is McGill’s best kept secret,Super Sandwich. Don’t let appearances fool you. This clean family run convenience store offers a great selection of vegetarian and meat options at student-friendly prices. I guarantee you will leave stuffed and incredibly satisfied after supporting this corky little resto/dep.
2) Vua, 1621 Saint-Catherine St W.

In the mood to try a flaky Vietnamese delight. Vua offers the best bánh mì in the downtown core. This small but efficient kitchen serves hundreds of people every day. Among their tasty sandwiches, you can also find traditional sushi, Asian salads and bubble tea, all at affordable prices. Located just upstairs from McGill metro station, you really can’t find anything of this quality so close to campus.
3) Midnight Kitchen, Top floor of the McGill SSMU (Shatner) Building

If you’ve gone over your weekly budget, Midnight Kitchen in the Shatner (aka Captain Kirk building) offers free vegan food every day from 12pm to 1 pm. This non-profit, volunteer-run initiative always serves quality with a side social justice. If you are looking for a hearty meal and great conversation with fellow students, this is the place to go! And if you’re feeling generous, donations are always welcomed.
4) Boucherie dans la Côte, 2123 Rue de Bleury

Granted, this next spot isn’t a restaurant, but it would be wrong of us not to mention this cute boucherie located near Place-Des-Arts metro station. Boucherie dans la Côte offers an awesome variety of charcuterie goodies at affordable prices.
And if you’re in need of a little extra something come Friday, you’ll be glad to know they also sport a great variety of local wines and beers. With a knowledgeable staff working behind the counter, you can bet you will leave this place with a few grams of your favorite goodies for your very own DIY charcuterie board at home.
5) McGill Pizza, 625 rue Milton

Finally, this last recommendation is an all-time favorite of McGill rez students. There is no better comfort food than Pizza. McGill Pizza offers the best greasy food at student friendly prices. Located by the Milton Gates, this dive is a great pit stop for lunch or dinner. You can’t beat the taste of a good pizza-ghetti!
Why fall victim to tourist traps and pay big dollar for small portions when you can enjoy some of Montreal's greatest finds for less. We hope we were able to guide you to true culinary joy without burning too much of your coin.
